Guide Summary
Tangier Ibn Battouta International Airport (TNG) is a human-sized airport. Unlike huge international hubs like Casablanca or Marrakech, you won’t find a giant shopping center here.
However, the airport offers the essentials to eat, grab a coffee, or make a few last-minute purchases before boarding your plane. Here is what awaits you inside the terminal.
1. In the Public Concourse (Before Security)
If you arrive early, or if you are accompanied by loved ones who are not traveling with you, you can wait in the main check-in hall (public area).
- Aero Café & Aero Cafeteria: These are the main dining spots accessible to everyone. You’ll find coffee, mint tea, pastries, as well as sandwiches and quick snacks. Prices are slightly higher than in the city center (as in all airports), but it remains an ideal place to sit down before going through security.
- Currency Exchange and Rental Desks: This area is also where you will find bank counters to exchange your remaining dirhams, as well as desks for car rental agencies.
2. In the Boarding Area (After Security)
Once you have cleared security screening and customs, you enter the boarding area (airside). This is where most traveler services are located.
☕ Dining: Café Illy
For those who want to grab a bite before boarding their flight, a spacious Café Illy awaits you in the departure lounge. It offers hot beverages, juices, pastries, and light meals (sandwiches, salads, paninis). There are plenty of seats with views over the runways.
🛍️ The Duty Free (Dufry / Avolta)
The Duty Free (tax-free) shop at Tangier Airport is a mandatory stop before the boarding gates. Although not huge, it is very well-stocked. You will find:
- Perfumes and Cosmetics: All major international brands.
- Alcohol and Tobacco: Moroccan wines, international spirits, and cigarette cartons (be sure to comply with the customs allowances of your destination country).
- Local Products: If you forgot to buy souvenirs, this is your last chance! You will find argan oil, amlou, Moroccan pastries, saffron, and local handicraft items.
- Newsstand and Snacks: Magazines, books, confectionery, and chocolates.
“Reserve & Collect” Tip: Did you know that you can shop online before even arriving at the airport? Tangier Duty Free offers a Reserve & Collect service: order on their website (often with a small discount), and pick up and pay for your items directly at the register at the airport!
The VIP Lounge
If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the terminal, the airport features an excellent VIP lounge (the Pearl Lounge). Accessible to business class passengers of select airlines, cardholders (such as Priority Pass), or by paying an entry fee (around €30 to €40), it offers an all-you-can-eat buffet, drinks, comfortable armchairs, and high-speed Wi-Fi. It is your best option if you have a long layover.
In Summary
Plan to buy large or highly specific gifts in town (at the Grand Souk in Tangier, for instance), as airport selections remain limited to the essentials. Nevertheless, for a last-minute coffee, a bottle of water, or a forgotten souvenir, Tangier Airport will comfortably meet your needs!
