Money & Exchange
Exchange bureaus, ATMs, and payment methods.
Moroccan Currency
The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). It is a restricted currency, meaning you cannot officially buy or sell Dirhams outside of Morocco. You will therefore need to exchange your money upon arrival.
Customs allowances & Cash rules:
Taking more than 2,000 MAD in cash out of Morocco is strictly prohibited, and foreign cash exceeding 100,000 MAD requires a written declaration. Read our full Tangier Airport Customs & Currency Rules Guide.
Exchange Bureaus
Several exchange bureaus (like Global Exchange) are located in the airport, notably:
- In the baggage claim area (before customs).
- In the public arrivals hall.
- In the boarding lounge (for your departures).
Tip: Exchange rates at the airport are rarely the most advantageous. Exchange only what you need for your first expenses (taxi, meal) and exchange the rest at a bank or bureau in Tangier city center.
ATMs
If you prefer to withdraw cash with your bank card, several ATMs from Moroccan banks (Banque Populaire, Attijariwafa, BMCE...) are available in the public hall. They issue Dirhams. Check with your bank beforehand regarding withdrawal fees abroad.
